In this article, Courtenay explains how she and her husband began the process of growing a low-maintenance perennial garden on a budget. She always provides good information and has a great sense of humor 🙂
Among other things, she explores:
- Where and when to buy cheap plants
- Which plants should you get?
- Aside from buying plants, where else can you get perennials for your garden?
She also has some thoughts on landscaping fabric, which is used to kill weeds. I’ve always thought landscaping fabric was more trouble than it was worth. Planting new flowers or veggies after the fact is more cumbersome. You have to slit through the fabric to the dirt below. I’ve also heard that it seems to discourage earthworms (not good). Landscape fabric is also made from petroleum products. All in all I’d rather have dirt to dig in and use traditional methods to control weeds.
