If you’re thinking of growing tomatoes in containers this summer, this is a really helpful article. Kerry shares her tips for improving your chances of successfully growing tomato plants in containers. She discusses the best containers to use, watering requirements, fertilizers, lighting needs, and how to plant the tomatoes.
One of the tools that Kerry mentions is a sunlight calculator. If you’re new to gardening, a sunlight calculator measures the amount of accumulated light in a given spot in your garden. Then you can match a plant’s light requirements (full sun, partial sun, partial shade, full shade) to the light reading you got from the sunlight calculator.
Since tomatoes need full sun, a sunlight calculator can tell you if the spot you selected will work or not. There are a number of good sunlight calculators. I use the Luster Leaf 1875 Rapitest Suncalc Sunlight Calculator because it’s simple, inexpensive and works well. You can see it on this page at Amazon.
